Time zones, share links and calendar files

  1. Name the event and choose its date and time, or tap a quick date.
  2. Set the time zone the event happens in. A launch at 09:00 in Tokyo is a different moment from 09:00 in Paris; the line under the digits shows both the event's time and yours.
  3. Share or save it. The share link carries the date, zone and name, so friends see the same countdown in their own local time. The .ics file adds the event to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook.

Daylight saving time is handled with the browser's copy of the IANA time zone database. If you pick a time that a clock change skips, such as 02:30 on the night clocks go forward, the countdown moves forward by the gap and says so; if the time happens twice when clocks go back, it uses the first. Once the moment has passed, the display turns to T-plus and counts the time since.

The share link keeps its details after the # sign, a part of a web address that browsers do not send to the server.

Questions

Why does my friend's link show a different time?

The countdown is to one moment, shown in the event's time zone and in each viewer's own. Both see the same days, hours and minutes left.

Does it count working days?

No, it counts calendar time: every day, weekend and night. The totals panel shows the same span in weeks, hours, minutes and seconds.

Can I count up from a past date?

Yes. Enter a date in the past, such as a birthday or the day a project started, and it shows the time since.
